The 1st Annual Texas Songwriters Cruise was an unbelievable
success!! The weather was perfect, the water was swimming pool
clear, the food was awesome, the clubs stayed open late, the casino
was rocking… and the conference itself, well that was even better.

There were so many highlights on this cruise, and I know we're
not even coming close to mentioning half of them, but here are
a few:
 |
The opening "Songwriters in the Round" session, where Mike
Geiger showed how great a guitar player he is, and sang
a few of his mega-hits as he heard them when he wrote them,
(including Adalida, Hillbilly Shoes and Darlene). Jason
Blume singing the smash hit that he wrote, recorded by John
Berry called "Change My Mind". (Isn't it cool that the doorbell
on his house plays that song!!)
What about Brother D. Vincent Williams playing one of his
hits: "I'm Moving On", recorded by Rascal Flats (and deemed
the Academy of Country Music's Song of the Year!). The Conference
attendees all agreed that D. Vincent needs an artist deal.
He is an incredible vocalist. |
 |
What about all the industry pro's showing up to hang out
with us after conference hours to pass the guitar and sing
songs that we've all written? That was pretty amazing! |
 |
Jason Blume brought a stack of songs that
we all know and have heard on the radio, except he didn't
bring the recording artist's version of the song; he brought
the demos that actually got the cuts!! |
 |
Did Jo Ann Braheny "Goose Your Muse?" She sure did mine,
providing lots of different techniques to maximize your
creativity. She has to be one of the nicest ladies I've
ever met. |
 |
Her better half, John Braheny demonstrated his extensive
knowledge of the music industry in all music genres, and
told us all about incredible marketing techniques to get
your songs heard and eventually recorded, (and many other
"gotta know" info). Thank you John. |
 |
Even though time had already long-since
expired, Norm DeVasure continued to invite conference attendees
to bring songs up for him to listen to during his pitch/critique
session. Happy Birthday Norm, it was an honor to celebrate
it with you on the cruise. |
 |
Ted Lowe has got to be one of the coolest
guys on the planet. So many attendees came up to me later
to tell me how valuable his presentations were. He explained
how songs are typically placed in TV and film, talked to
us about how writers are paid for their works, and played
many of the songs that he has placed in TV such as "Pimp
My Ride", "Desperate Housewives" and many more. |
 |
What about Perry Howard sitting down with each individual
songwriter separately to hear their songs and talk to them
one-on-one about what he was hearing, and offering suggestions
for improving their works. BMI Rawks! |
 |
Fellow Conference Songwriter Terry Stephenson
being approached by Mike Geiger and D. Vincent Williams
to co-write a song, just based on the killer title that
Terry came up with. Those of us at the conference agree
that that was a great title. |
 |
Brother John Mikolasek, staying up till
the wee hours to listen to the attendee's song pitches.
Nice. |
 |
What about Jason Blume's Closing Remarks.
Did you get the same goose bumps that I did after his motivational
and inspiring comments? |
Our absentee publishers were amazing! Many of them listened
to more songs than they agreed to listen to, and many of them
provided individual comments and critiques about each song.
Ya'll were great!
There were so many other memorable moments, lots of friendships
made, co-writers found and lots of pats on the back after sharing
our songwriting works with each other.
Thanks to everyone, pro's, songwriters, conference staff,
and especially Jeni, for helping to make this year's event such
an incredible event.
Sincerely,
Lealean Peace
